What license do I need in order to use SNOMED CT, and where do I get it?

If you intend to use, deploy, or distribute SNOMED CT within a Member country, you must obtain a free Affiliate License.  Affiliate licenses can be via 2 methods:

  1. All Member countries distribute the International Edition and, in some instances, their own national editions of SNOMED CT.  You would need to go to those countries to obtain your Affiliate License and download that relevant editions of SNOMED CT, https://confluence.ihtsdotools.org/display/MLDSDOC/Member+Affiliate+Licensing+Information

If you plan to use SNOMED CT in multiple Member countries, separate Affiliate Licenses must be obtained for each.

  1. For use, deployment, or distribution of SNOMED CT in non-Member countries, an Affiliate License must be obtained directly from SNOMED International (MLDS) and may necessitate a fee, and must be renewed annually.. Invoices for licensing fees are issued once per year.

License fees for non-Member countries are based on each country’s Territory Band as defined by the World Bank.  Once you determine the Territory Band for the country in which you are using, deploying or distributing SNOMED CT, find the Affiliate License fee for each Territory Band here. After submission, and if applicable, SNOMED International will send an invoice with the relevant fee.

All license holders are required to submit an annual Statement of Usage to the relevant Member country or SNOMED International if in a non-Member country.
